![]() The $259.99 price tag is certainly more appealing than a $400 GoPro Hero3+ Black Edition, but the MS-1's video quality isn't as sharp and clear. Depending on how often you use Wi-Fi, Elmo touts a two-hour battery life with the built-in (and non-removable) 1,000mAh battery, which is good, but having the option to change batteries on the fly is always better. Our review unit came with a phone-mount that hangs the camera from your phone, and lets you hold and use the camera as if you were taking a video or picture with your phone, which adds an element of stabilization, too, but it's not very secure unless you keep still or move slowly. One other glitch: It became unresponsive when I tried to quickly switch back and forth from settings to Video/Photo modes, so it's not best suited for activities that require quick setting or mode adjustments.Īccessories, Battery, and Conclusion At the time of writing, there aren't any mounts or accessories available through the website, but Elmo confirmed that several mounts, including an adjustable tilting mount, smart clip, belt mount, standard camera mount kits, handlebar mount, and suction cup mounts will become available in the near future, along with a waterproof case in mid-July. Otherwise, the app is very intuitive to use and quite well designed. However, once you press Record, the video stream of what the camera is pointing at becomes extremely choppy-which is still more useful than GoPro's app, where the video stream cuts off entirely when you start recording. Thankfully, they're pretty decent you can adjust every setting on the camera, including video options, and it acts as a live view remote that streams the camera's view pretty smoothly. The MS-1 doesn't have a display, so you'll need to use Elmo's Android and iOS apps for settings adjustments. If you're looking to snap photos with your action cam, you should probably look at the GoPro the MS-1's 5-megapixel sensor takes blurry pictures that lack detail. ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, its short throw lens can focus on objects closer than one inch to the camera, which isn't a feature many action cameras can boast about. But it's fine for the MS-1's price range, and slightly better than Sony's Action Cam (HDR-AS100V). At 1080p30, edges can appear a little fuzzy with some purple fringing, and video quality is generally not as sharp and clear as the pricier GoPro Hero3 Black Edition or iON's Air Pro 3, especially in low-light situations. On the camera's right side is a removable (but still attached) cover that reveals micro USB, microSD, and mini HDMI ports, and there's a standard mount screw on the bottom so you can use third-party mounts. In the box, you'll find the camera itself along with a lens cover, a charging cable, and a phone clip-mount. On the left side is a Video Record button to start or stop recording, and a Wi-Fi button to enable Wi-Fi connectivity between the camera and your mobile device. On the top of the camera, you'll find a Power button as well as a Photo Capture button for quick picture taking, so you won't need to go through menus to set the camera to Photo Mode. The buttons dotted around the camera are easy to press, and make for quick, easy switching between Video and Photo modes. The LEDs, grills, and chrome ring (flanked by two orange dots) combination makes for a busy design that might not appeal to everyone. Three LEDs above the lens signal power, Wi-Fi, and recording status, and you'll find small stereo microphones and speakers on each corner. Most of the camera's front is taken up by the lens that protrudes considerably more than other action cams due to its wide-angle lens. Elmo doesn't offer waterproof cases for the MS-1, but it is resistant to water just don't go scuba-diving with it. At 2.4 by 2.2 by 1.6 inches (HWD) and weighing 3.35 ounces, its square body is about the same size and weight as the GoPro, but is less boxy and more streamlined. Best Hosted Endpoint Protection and Security Softwareĭesign and Features With the white pearl-colored exterior and chrome ring around the lens, Elmo's QBiC MS-1 certainly doesn't look like a rugged action camera like the GoPro Hero3 BE and iON Air Pro 3.
